Film Over Book

Doing my Rhetorical Analysis and Summary was a lot easier than expected. I feel that doing the summary was a lot harder than doing the analysis. The summary was hard to just focus on what the documentary was about rather than my opinion. But the things we went over in class, to where we focus on talking out how we felt about the film and giving our opinion. Doing that I feel was a lot easier since I got all my opinions out and I got to writing my summary and just thought about the film. Once I had the summary done we went to the analysis.

Doing the analysis was much easier since I had the summary in front of me that I wrote and thought about where ethos, pathos, and logos all fell into place. How I wrote my analysis was I focused on a specific scene for the pathos of where I thought the most emotion was. Then I intertwined the ethos and logos with the overall film and how they used these analysis throughout the film. I really like how we could focus on one specific scene with one of the three, then do what you want with the other two. I am really glad we got to submit this before the weekend, then get to focus on what to change next week, finally submit it before spring break.

Overall I believe this project was a very interesting way of writing. I like how we got to do it based off of a film rather than a book, or short story. I like how it was brought up and how we got to write it in the way we did. I really liked my film, I did not expect myself to like it as much as I did. I think this project was a very different piece and way to write. I believe that every student should get to experience writing about a film rather than a book.

  1. Hello, Shannon! I love the typewriter like font you chose for your blog! I'm glad that the Rhetorical Analysis assignment went well for you. I'm curious why writing an analysis was easier in your opinion compared to writing just the summary. I agree that writing about a film gives students important knowledge as it requires a lot of thought into Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. To me, writing about a book is a bit different than scenes of a movie say more than just words. I'm also now curious what the difference is in your opinion?

Week Recap

Card 101 was a really knowledgeable week this week. This week taught me a lot. We had research skill training on Monday. I gained a lot of knowledge from the things we discussed and discovered. The webpage that we may use to access the library website was fantastic. The statements beginning with "Or" and "And" were my favorites. I find it fascinating how much those two words may alter during the course of research. For instance, how much they both explicitly narrow down what you are seeking for. I really enjoyed the sheet she gave us and how we could go in some direction if necessary. I just believed that doing this demonstrated our familiarity with the research method, but it will also aid in simplifying the procedure and make it simpler to identify trustworthy websites.       After that, we had a workday on Wednesday. We helped someone with their topic by guiding them through the process of reducing a wide topic to a more focused on...

Warm-up to the End

For my Rational Argument it was hard for me to pick a topic. I narrowed it down to three different topics and decided on my topic after that. For me choosing a topic is not that bad because there are many topics to choose to argue about. But the thing that is hardest for me is finding reliable sources. For finding one I read through certain sections to make sure it is good enough for my point or if it counters it to make sure I have a thing to back it up. I am pretty positive my sources I have so far are pretty reliable and I am confident with them.       The other thing that I oddly struggle on is just trying to write small pieces of the paper at a time. I love to just write the whole paper whether it is a “Shitty First Draft” and it might not be an A paper. I like it because once I get on a roll with writing a paper I honestly dont wanna stop. For my first rough draft I already have 5 pages done but I am still not done with it. I found most of my sources to ...

Microtheme

I have never written a paper like this Microtheme before. It discourages you from taking a stand or trying to support your points with facts. This particular piece of writing will benefit my professional development as a writer. We are all so familiar with choosing sides and arguing for them. However, this goes further into writing and forces you to consider an idea you agree with without arguing for the point. This kind of writing will assist us in learning how to use our critical thinking skills more and keep our sentences brief and to the point.      I underestimated how difficult this piece would be. I found it quite difficult to choose a topic, especially given how use I am to support my claims with evidence. I eventually settled on a topic, but given the standards we must maintain, it was still incredibly challenging to write about. To the best of my ability, I wrote my rough draft using all the examples as a guide. I was stil...
