Halfway There :)

Today we started week 8 of the semester and it is absolutely mind blowing. I can't believe we are already on week 8. But let's dive deep in what we have done so far in this class. The first couple of weeks it was easing into writing and talking and discussing information about writing. We did About Me and wrote about ourselves in a short discussion where we commented on classmates in Canvas. Then we started to talk about our Blogs and how to make it pleasing to the human eye. After we did some changes and discussions and reading about our blogs we did our first blog post. Our first blog post was a bigger, more in depth description about who we are. We read Chapter 1 in our books and did some reflection about the difference in writing in high school and college. That was the first couple of weeks in the semester.      Then we went onto the very different yet intriguing Microthemes. Our Microthemes we discussed a lot in class and went over before ...

After Innocence

After watching the documentary I chose it was very eye opening. I chose to watch After Innocence. I am always very into watching things about crime and about this type of thing, but this was much different from  most of the crime shows I have watched. It was a very moving documentary that was about 8 men who were found innocent after 6 ½ years up to 23 years of being in prison. Most of the men were convicted of 1st degree murder, rap or both, as well as kidnapping and robbery with one of the others. Some were even put on death row and held in solitary confinement.   Watching this documentary was very sad at times, it's so sad to see people who knew they were innocent be in prison for as long as these 8 men were. The people who knew they were innocent have their life change before them in a blink of an eye. Watching each of these men talk about their stories was really moving. The fact that all of them when they came out were very calm and collected, just happy th...

Prior to and Following

Rough Draft Muscles I have been called “too muscular” for a girl and told “I look like a boy”. My passion for exercising and weightlifting has undoubtedly contributed to my muscle growth over the years. I imagine many other girls have experienced teasing and hatred for having masculine body features. Why do people feel it's okay to comment on women's muscles? One possible reason is that this is why girls struggle so much with their bodies. Due to the fact that we have to appear in a specific way to be the "ideal girl”. Another factor is the stereotype that girls lack muscle, particularly in the upper body. As well as if they have muscle then they need to have the perfect amount otherwise we will be “too muscular” through others eyes. In the long term, it hurts others when people intentionally criticize others in order to boost their own egos and feel better. If we have a different attitude toward girls who are muscular and encourage them to be confident no matter what th...

Microtheme

I have never written a paper like this Microtheme before. It discourages you from taking a stand or trying to support your points with facts. This particular piece of writing will benefit my professional development as a writer. We are all so familiar with choosing sides and arguing for them. However, this goes further into writing and forces you to consider an idea you agree with without arguing for the point. This kind of writing will assist us in learning how to use our critical thinking skills more and keep our sentences brief and to the point.      I underestimated how difficult this piece would be. I found it quite difficult to choose a topic, especially given how use I am to support my claims with evidence. I eventually settled on a topic, but given the standards we must maintain, it was still incredibly challenging to write about. To the best of my ability, I wrote my rough draft using all the examples as a guide. I was stil...
