Halfway There :)

Today we started week 8 of the semester and it is absolutely mind blowing. I can't believe we are already on week 8. But let's dive deep in what we have done so far in this class. The first couple of weeks it was easing into writing and talking and discussing information about writing. We did About Me and wrote about ourselves in a short discussion where we commented on classmates in Canvas. Then we started to talk about our Blogs and how to make it pleasing to the human eye. After we did some changes and discussions and reading about our blogs we did our first blog post. Our first blog post was a bigger, more in depth description about who we are. We read Chapter 1 in our books and did some reflection about the difference in writing in high school and college. That was the first couple of weeks in the semester.

Then we went onto the very different yet intriguing Microthemes. Our Microthemes we discussed a lot in class and went over before and after pieces. We were shown what to do and what not to do. We got guided in the right direction of how to write it correctly. We got to submit a rough draft to see how we did overall and got comments on how to fix and change certain areas or sentences. We then did some class overview to have our peers read them and talk them over with us. Then we finally got to the final part of having to submit the final draft of our Microtheme. Which was very nerve racking, but writing a Microtheme was such a new learning curve that I loved to do and see the changes from how it was before I did anything and truly knew if I was 100% right or not. To then submit a draft that I saw such significant beneficial changes.

We are finally caught up to current day to where last week we discussed our documentaries to the class and what they were about and how we felt about them. We had to answer the questions and review and get out all of our feelings and emotions about how strongly we felt so we can begin our summaries. We submitted the first draft of our summaries today. I don't know how to feel about it but I think it was overall very helpful doing the questions about how we felt before we wrote a summary. Of course every week we also have to do our blogs and talk about certain topics, things we did in class, our work, etc. To conclude, happy beginning of week 8! We have made it this far; now, we are in the home stretch. :)

Week Recap

Card 101 was a really knowledgeable week this week. This week taught me a lot. We had research skill training on Monday. I gained a lot of knowledge from the things we discussed and discovered. The webpage that we may use to access the library website was fantastic. The statements beginning with "Or" and "And" were my favorites. I find it fascinating how much those two words may alter during the course of research. For instance, how much they both explicitly narrow down what you are seeking for. I really enjoyed the sheet she gave us and how we could go in some direction if necessary. I just believed that doing this demonstrated our familiarity with the research method, but it will also aid in simplifying the procedure and make it simpler to identify trustworthy websites.       After that, we had a workday on Wednesday. We helped someone with their topic by guiding them through the process of reducing a wide topic to a more focused on...

Warm-up to the End

For my Rational Argument it was hard for me to pick a topic. I narrowed it down to three different topics and decided on my topic after that. For me choosing a topic is not that bad because there are many topics to choose to argue about. But the thing that is hardest for me is finding reliable sources. For finding one I read through certain sections to make sure it is good enough for my point or if it counters it to make sure I have a thing to back it up. I am pretty positive my sources I have so far are pretty reliable and I am confident with them.       The other thing that I oddly struggle on is just trying to write small pieces of the paper at a time. I love to just write the whole paper whether it is a “Shitty First Draft” and it might not be an A paper. I like it because once I get on a roll with writing a paper I honestly dont wanna stop. For my first rough draft I already have 5 pages done but I am still not done with it. I found most of my sources to ...

Microtheme

I have never written a paper like this Microtheme before. It discourages you from taking a stand or trying to support your points with facts. This particular piece of writing will benefit my professional development as a writer. We are all so familiar with choosing sides and arguing for them. However, this goes further into writing and forces you to consider an idea you agree with without arguing for the point. This kind of writing will assist us in learning how to use our critical thinking skills more and keep our sentences brief and to the point.      I underestimated how difficult this piece would be. I found it quite difficult to choose a topic, especially given how use I am to support my claims with evidence. I eventually settled on a topic, but given the standards we must maintain, it was still incredibly challenging to write about. To the best of my ability, I wrote my rough draft using all the examples as a guide. I was stil...
