After watching the documentary I chose it was very eye opening. I chose to watch After Innocence. I am always very into watching things about crime and about this type of thing, but this was much different from most of the crime shows I have watched. It was a very moving documentary that was about 8 men who were found innocent after 6 ½ years up to 23 years of being in prison. Most of the men were convicted of 1st degree murder, rap or both, as well as kidnapping and robbery with one of the others. Some were even put on death row and held in solitary confinement.
Watching this documentary was very sad at times, it's so sad to see people who knew they were innocent be in prison for as long as these 8 men were. The people who knew they were innocent have their life change before them in a blink of an eye. Watching each of these men talk about their stories was really moving. The fact that all of them when they came out were very calm and collected, just happy they got the justice they deserve and got to see their families again. A lot of these men are in movements to help stop certain things from happening to others. Other men when they got out were trying to get a degree or job that they truly wanted. Some of them were trying to start a family, or pick up with their families they have not seen since being in prison. Most of these men had such a hard time trying to build from where they got let out. They did not give any of these men money or anything to help them start the life they should've had. Some couldn't even get a house or apartment due to them having no law to compensate the wrongfully convicted and had to live with their parents. They had to start from the ground up with money and try to get back on their feet.
This documentary has so much emotion in it that you can not even describe due to how much happened to these innocent people. The fact that they were in prison for that long due to them being wrongfully convicted. Some of these men got their DNA back from some cases showing they were innocent and were still kept in jail for another 3 or so years due to the government and court. I am really glad I chose this documentary from just watching the trailer, I knew I would be interested in watching it. But I did not know that it would be this shocking and moving all at once. It was an emotional roller coaster trying not to get anger for the cases and stuff that these men had to go through. Overall, I think this video is deserving of the honor it received, and I think more people need to watch it to appreciate how drastically even the smallest event can alter someone's life.
