The Finish Line

Wow this is it… We did it. We got through our first year of college. It went by in a blink of an eye. It was a stressful, emotional roller coaster, but we did it. We made it to the finish line. Summer is a week away. Words cannot describe my first semester, so many emotions and feelings. But let's write about it.. Here goes nothing…

First semester started off with welcome week, probably one of the most unforgettable memories of college. I tried to be myself and not act as the normal shy me and well it led me to an amazing group of friends. These are the friends that are gonna be by my side through the ups and downs. Then we started off to an actual first day of college, definitely not what I was expecting. I finished my first day and had so much time on my hand I had no idea what to do. Well that didn't last long once we truly got into school. But it was a new experience that was so different from high school. I liked it, the freedom, the amount of time we had, just everything. I loved how when I am bored my roommate and I can just walk down a couple doors and we can go annoy and talk to our other friends. It's like a year long sleepover with your best friends. You can always go to them no matter what. Then finals came around the most stressful time of the year but I got through it. We all did, we got through the first semester of college. Then we had almost a month off which was so nice to spend time with family, friends, and just relax.

Then the second semester came rolling around. I had harder classes and nerves built up like in the first semester. But went in with  confidence and ended up doing it yet again. The finish line is a week from now and I have never felt better in my life, I cannot wait to finish my first whole year of college! I learned a lot about time management, my strengths and weaknesses, how to balance certain things, and just how to grow up. College teaches you so much, it may be stressful as hell but it's worth it in the long run. Just remember you need time to grow and develop in a new environment, just get out of your comfort zone, it's worth it :)

This class ends tomorrow and I am so proud of how much my writing has improved. Through everything we have done in this class it truly taught me how to write like a writer. For that I cannot be more grateful. With the beginning of a microtheme a thing I never heard of in my entire life, but learned and wrote something I never thought I would be writing about but ended up loving every second of writing it. Watching a documentary that I ended up finding super interesting and summarizing to the best of my ability. I wrote about how I felt, how to persuade the readers, and how to build up a logical reason for why this documentary was interesting and you should watch it. To the last big thing of how to argue but in a rational way of using facts information and having the reader truly see your side. To the free writes in the beginning of class that got my brain working and thinking like a writer. Then finally to the blogs that just let me recap the week or the overall feeling of what we were doing and my knowledge of it. This class taught me so much. And for that here is to getting to the finish line, we did it, we finished our first year of college.

Week Recap

Card 101 was a really knowledgeable week this week. This week taught me a lot. We had research skill training on Monday. I gained a lot of knowledge from the things we discussed and discovered. The webpage that we may use to access the library website was fantastic. The statements beginning with "Or" and "And" were my favorites. I find it fascinating how much those two words may alter during the course of research. For instance, how much they both explicitly narrow down what you are seeking for. I really enjoyed the sheet she gave us and how we could go in some direction if necessary. I just believed that doing this demonstrated our familiarity with the research method, but it will also aid in simplifying the procedure and make it simpler to identify trustworthy websites.       After that, we had a workday on Wednesday. We helped someone with their topic by guiding them through the process of reducing a wide topic to a more focused on...

Warm-up to the End

For my Rational Argument it was hard for me to pick a topic. I narrowed it down to three different topics and decided on my topic after that. For me choosing a topic is not that bad because there are many topics to choose to argue about. But the thing that is hardest for me is finding reliable sources. For finding one I read through certain sections to make sure it is good enough for my point or if it counters it to make sure I have a thing to back it up. I am pretty positive my sources I have so far are pretty reliable and I am confident with them.       The other thing that I oddly struggle on is just trying to write small pieces of the paper at a time. I love to just write the whole paper whether it is a “Shitty First Draft” and it might not be an A paper. I like it because once I get on a roll with writing a paper I honestly dont wanna stop. For my first rough draft I already have 5 pages done but I am still not done with it. I found most of my sources to ...

Microtheme

I have never written a paper like this Microtheme before. It discourages you from taking a stand or trying to support your points with facts. This particular piece of writing will benefit my professional development as a writer. We are all so familiar with choosing sides and arguing for them. However, this goes further into writing and forces you to consider an idea you agree with without arguing for the point. This kind of writing will assist us in learning how to use our critical thinking skills more and keep our sentences brief and to the point.      I underestimated how difficult this piece would be. I found it quite difficult to choose a topic, especially given how use I am to support my claims with evidence. I eventually settled on a topic, but given the standards we must maintain, it was still incredibly challenging to write about. To the best of my ability, I wrote my rough draft using all the examples as a guide. I was stil...
