When reading Chapter 1 it was a very eye opening chapter. It made me realize how much high school writing is different from college writing. Writing is just a small part of what we do for a living; no matter what line of work you are in, writing will always be included. You will always need to complete a writing assignment, especially in college. Compared to my previous writing, this writing will be more difficult. We must learn to examine things more closely, as the chapter suggested, focusing more on organization than on little details. All the information will come together if you have good writing organization, making the writing piece you have to do easier. College and any career, in my opinion, will always read more into and between the lines of whatever paper we produce. Instead of concentrating on every tiny aspect that contributes to the overall picture, we must shift our attention to the greater picture, which will cause all the smaller pieces to fall into place.
This week in class, we discussed the article "Clean Up Your Mess" and worked on establishing our blogs. This article helped us concentrate a lot on how we want our blog—or anything else you are creating—to be visually appealing. Every image, caption, design element, writing, etc. should be clear and simple to understand. Knowing your target audience will help you keep them interested in your blog or other work. You want your blog to be attractive and simple to read. For your blog, you should also try to draw the reader's interest, whether it be through a photo or what you are writing. This article not only inspired me to create a blog, but it also helped me understand how important it is to design everything we write so that readers can easily read and understand it.
Last but not least, I discovered at the library that exploring websites further is actually quite significant. We discussed websites like.org and.edu that we might use to our advantage, as well as going into greater detail regarding the contributions that the article we are reading makes to its subject. I discovered that Wikipedia is actually a very beneficial website for digging more deeply into the material you are reading, contrary to what high school had taught us. It will let you know whether or not the website or content is biased. Although many of the stories we read might be biased, you should always check the sources to determine their credibility. The class on Wednesday taught me a lot, and I'll keep that in mind as I search for reliable sources for my work.
